The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, started and supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to pull in highly motivated and energetic students looking for essential science courses and research career in science field.
The objective of the program is to identify students with talent and ability for research; help them recognize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.
This program aims to help the students to recognize their potential and to ensure that the best scientific talent is groomed for research and development in the country. Generous fellowship and contingency grant are provided to the selected KVPY Fellows up to the pre Ph.D. level or 5 years whichever is earlier. In addition, summer camps for the KVPY Fellows are organized in important research and educational institutions in the country.
ABOUT KVPY FELLOWSHIP
The candidate continues to study Basic Science courses in school/junior college/university, and maintains a minimum level of academic performance of first class or 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate or equivalent grade points and the students have to essentially pass all the subjects prescribed for that particular academic year (two semesters in case of semester system) and should have obtained the above-specified percentage of marks. In the coursework, in each academic year, the marks/grades will have to be certified by the Dean or Head of the Institution. The fellowship will be discontinued if the above marks/grade is not obtained. However, if the candidate passes all the subjects and obtains greater than 60% ((50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in the subsequent years, the fellowship can be renewed only from that year onwards, again with the condition that the fellow should obtain 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate every year. This is effective from 2012 awardees onwards. The Student is eligible to receive the KVPY fellowship up to the Pre-PhD level or 5 years whichever is earlier.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The KVPY Fellowships are given to Indian Nationals who Studying in India (Students going to pursue/pursing under the graduate program under Distance Education scheme of any university are not eligible to apply). The eligibility criteria are divided into three streams which are given below:-
For Stream SA
Candidates, those studying in 11th class with science stream can apply for this exam. For applying this exam candidate must have to pass class 10th with Mathematics & Science subjects & secure minimum 80% marks (70% marks for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate.
For Stream SX
Candidates, those studying in class 12th with science stream can apply for this exam. For applying this exam Candidates have to score minimum 60% marks (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate in Science subjects (PCB) in Class 12th. Candidates also have to obtain at least 80% marks (70% marks in case of SC/ST/PWD) in aggregate in class 10th.
For Stream SB
Candidates, who enrolled in 1st year of the Undergraduate programme in Basic Science (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology) leading to B.Sc/BS/B.Math./B.Stat./MS/Int. M.Sc) can apply for this exam. For applying this exam Candidates have to score at least 60% marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST/ PWD category) in 10+2 examination.
Note: Candidates going to pursue/pursing undergraduate program under Distance Education scheme of any university are not eligible to apply.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
Selection procedure for this fellowship is as follows:-
- Aptitude Test: After analysis of application forms and fulfilling the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible candidates will be called for aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English language at different centers across the country.
Admit Card: Candidates can download the admit card online from the KVPY website
- Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, selected candidates will be called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

- Step 3. Payment of application fees can be done either by using a credit card/ATM-Debit card/Net Banking or by downloading an e-challan from the application portal. No other means of payment will be accepted. Once payment is successful and application submitted no refund will be done.
Note: Candidates can apply only through online mode there is no other way to apply.

There is no approved syllabus for this exam. The syllabus consists of the chapter of the 10th/11th/12th/1st year of B.Sc/BS/B.Stat/B.Math/MS/Int. M.Sc.

KVPY 2018 RESULT
Candidates can check their results in the 1st week of December 2018 through online mode. After the declaration of the result, the provisional list of candidates will be shortlisted for further process and candidates are called for an interview. Keep the printed copy of the result for the selection process.
