Engineering is not as easy as people think. It needs Hard Work, Dedication, and Team Work. When a student enters in engineering field some new words strike his ears and workshop is one of them. Some of them are free, and some are paid. He will apparently be confused if either it was beneficial for him or just a wastage of money and time.
I want to share with you why workshops must be a part of the engineering curriculum and how to organise it.
In this article, you will find a foolproof, step-by-step guide to organise a quality session.
Holding your Workshop in a College, School or any educational institute is simple, fun, and rewarding.
Read the guidelines I’ve compiled for you, and feel free to take all the advice I am sharing.
This was just my experience during college time, and I am going to share this. I was eager to learn everything I could.
Today, I dedicate a significant portion of my time to help others realize their career objectives. I love what I do!
In my first workshop only ten students took part but I the most recent one they were 450 in number.
For sure I wasn’t expecting that kind of crowd when I organised my first workshop!
You’re going to be amazed at how simple it is to organise a wonderful session. Plus, you’re going to experience a sense of achievement and satisfaction when you get going.
I’m going to walk you through the natural train of thoughts that most people will have when researching how to organise their workshop.
Hosting a workshop isn’t far away, so keep on reading to learn more.
Related to Engineering field, workshop refers to the event where we can learn about the New Inventions and its core principles. Technology allows us to extend our ideas into the physical world using tools. The goal of this is to improve the quality of life for ourselves or others.
Technology allows us to extend our ideas into the physical world using tools. The goal of this is to improve the quality of life for ourselves or others.
There are sessions on subjects ranging from cake decorating to treating schizophrenia, all of which are limited in time, meant to teach practical skills or techniques or ideas, and conducted by people like you.
Benefits of Workshops:-
The workshop helps you to know about your field of interest. It gives you the right direction which your four-year course never provides you with. As you all know the books which are being used in the daily curriculum have limited knowledge.
Whereas workshops link you to new technology which helps you generate new ideas and it becomes your passion in a few days when you get fully involved in it.
Another side helps you to change the romantic atmosphere of your college into technical and helps you to spend more time with your team members sometimes it affects when your partner in the workshop is someone you are friends(or more than that) with, the main reason of your distraction.
It is evident that no one becomes an expert in 2 days of the workshop, but it gives you the basic idea to start.
How to be a part of the workshop?
No need to worry, as there is no exam to participate in any of the seminars, you just need to pay some amount which is negligible as compared to your engineering fees.
I know 90% of engineering students after their 3rd year thought that they had wasted their money in engineering because after four years of study you are still unemployed or not educationally equipped for a job. But workshop concept gives you a chance to get employed by mastering into a particular field.
There are some training organised all over India in different educational institutes, just Google it and register yourself for that.
Suggestion: – Try to participate where numbers of candidates are small because of that quality of education increases. Try to avoid participation during fest of colleges. These workshops are only for earnings. “Now I have become Enemy of Organisers by sharing this experience (Lol..).” No Issue anything for fellow engineers.
I want to share one more thing as per my personal experience because every student hesitates to pay workshop fees because according to him/her that’s was a big amount. Just think about your expenses of engineering.
One of my Professor during my Graduation always used to say “Always Keep a Fix Amount of Money with You to Invest in Yourself Every Year, Don’t Hesitate to Purchase Books, Never Think before Participating in an Event Which Teaches You Something, these type of Opportunities Never Come Back.”
So, the training is the way to learn something during college life. It depends on you ‘Better to Invest than following the Crowd.’
Better to be Organizer then Participant:-
Why do you think only of participation? Taking the lead to organize workshops means you are going to get ten times more experience than a regular participant.
But before this, you must participate 2 or 3 workshops to understand the things, how a workshop is organised?
You will get experience to handle many worse situations during this period that gives birth to your new quality called ‘Leadership, ’ and after some time you become an expert in these types of activities. This helps you to experience the real meaning of Leadership. Isn’t it Interesting?
There is mainly a rule i.e. trainer explains everything to coordinators before the workshop, and then you are going to help others during the workshop. It means your concepts are clearer in comparison to others.
The team offers you a recommendation letter, Coordinator Certificate, etc. which is a proof of your leadership. It helps in getting a job by standing out from the crowd during interviews.
How to Organise a Workshop:-
Now it’s your turn to conduct a workshop. You may be training staff or volunteering for a new organisation, presenting at a conference, or trying to show the world this terrific new method your team has developed.
Whatever the case, you’re going to have to entertain, educate, and edify a group of people you’ve probably never met before. That may sound frightening, but running a workshop is very much like anything else: if you prepare well, stay relaxed, and respect the participants, it’ll go fine.
Training Many times students have an excuse that they don’t have contacts of those who organise training in colleges. Sharing Some of them, I prefer Skilled Guru, Robo sapiens and AB Lab Solutions to host workshops in engineering colleges. They provide quality training on topics like Robotics; IT-related Sessions etc.
Now Steps to Organise a Workshop:
Step 1. Google different teams those who host workshops on campuses, contact them and make an estimated charge which students have to pay or you can request college to pay for students skill enhancements.
Step 2. Write a letter for permission of organising a workshop in college. This letter must include Aim, benefits, content, date, time and estimate of the seminar. You can edit as according to your convenience.
Step 3. Build a perfect team of students for the workshop including a teacher who will guide you and save you if any unmanageable situation arises.
Step 4. Now it’s time for marketing after getting permission. Print some marketing material like flex, pamphlets or ask the team to provide you marketing material related to the workshop. Distribute this material in your college and other nearby colleges.
Start registration for students, don’t exceed quantity more than 150 students. Just remember the quality of workshop is inversely proportional to the number of students.
Step 5. On the day of the workshop, it is your duty to assure everything is on the perfect track. Useful things must be placed or collected before one hour of starting. Must focus on the trainer as he covers all topics of content that he promised before the workshop because every student pays you on your trust so be attentive all the time.
WHY WOULD YOU GIVE A WORKSHOP?
Why pick a workshop, when you could utilise some other technique like a study circle, a course, training, and so on. Since there are various distinctive approaches to show individuals things. And because people learn things in different ways, a workshop has its number of benefits.
Even if you have never done it before, you can lead a decent workshop by focusing on every one of the points of the procedure.
To conduct a practical and fruitful workshop, you need to address its planning, preparation, and execution. As you plan, consider the workshop’s audience, its size, its duration, its purpose, and your presentation options.
Preparation includes logistics (managing the physical items involved, materials, equipment, kits, etc.), and preparing psychologically as well. Finally, the implementation of the workshop includes attending to all three of its phases: introduction, substance, and closure.
And don’t forget to follow-up, both by fulfilling any promises and using feedback to redesign. Change parts of the workshop so that your next one will be even better.
Hope this will help you to organise and participate in workshops. It not only increase your knowledge but also helps you to learn How to work in a Team, It enhances your personality and changes your way of talking as sometimes it gives you opportunities to meet great characters.
